I want to share some quotes about finding yourself, because… …well… I believe that finding yourself is one of the most important tasks you have here on earth.
Really? It’s THAT important?
Yes, it’s THAT important.
Finding yourself can seem like some elusive new-agey hocus-pocus thing, but it’s actually a pretty simple concept. All it really means is figuring out:
- Who you are (ie. what are your inborn personality traits)
- What you like
- What you don’t like
And this, dear readers, is the basic foundation on which all other personal growth is built. It’s this self awareness that allows you to figure out what you need to be content and what the best way is for you to contribute to other people’s well-being.
Now, for some people, self discovery comes easily. This is usually the case for people who have fairly common personalities and likes and dislikes. Or people whose parents have similar selves and are able to serve as a model.
But for some of us, self discovery is a longer and more arduous journey. Those of us with personalities that are not the mainstream ideal. Those of us raised in families where our unique gifts were not recognized. Those of us with a tendency to bend ourselves backward to live up to other people’s expectations.
If you belong in this latter group, I want to give you some extra support. To keep you inspired on your journey of self discovery (even if it’s not the easiest journey), here is a collection of my favorite quotes about finding yourself.
Quotes About Finding Yourself
Quotes About The Benefits of Finding Yourself
Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.
You’ve got to know yourself so you can at last be yourself.
D. H. Lawrence
In order for us to grow and change – to develop our ability to make more conscious choices – we first need to know how we truly operate in the present. To become all that we can be, we must start where we are and know exactly where and who we are.
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.
People need to know themselves to love themselves, and they need to love themselves to love others.
Joel Mark Witt & Antonia Dodge
Find yourself first – like yourself first – love yourself FIRST & friendship & love will naturally find YOU.
So without any intentional, fancy way of adjusting yourself, to express yourself freely as you are is the most important thing to make yourself happy, and to make others happy.
Quotes About How NOT Finding Yourself Will Hold You Back
Men can starve from a lack of self-realization as much as they can from a lack of bread.
If you trade your authenticity for safety, you may experience the following: anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction, rage, blame, resentment, and inexplicable grief.
Quotes About HOW To Find Yourself
Self-awareness is not about discovering deep, dark secrets or unconscious motivations, but rather, it comes from developing a straightforward and honest understanding of what makes you tick. People high in self- awareness are remarkably clear in their understanding of what they do well, what motivates and satisfies them, and which people and situations push their buttons.
Travis Bradberry & Jean Greaves
Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.
You will recognize your own path when you come upon it, because you will suddenly have all the energy and imagination you will ever need.
But who you are is not a concept in the sky, and it’s not a record of your accomplishments either. The most original and creative side of you can re-emerge only when you get time of your own, free time, wide-open time, uncommitted time, time in which to go after dreams or do absolutely nothing if you choose. Without it you can’t have a self.
What you want is what you need. Your dearest wish comes straight from your core, loaded with vital information about who you are and who you can become.
Finding oneself and one’s path is like waking up on a foggy day. Be patient, and presently the fog will clear and that which has always been there can be seen. The path is already there to follow.
Once you’ve started down that road to self-discovery, no matter how treacherous the path before you, you can’t turn back. The universe doesn’t allow it.
Quotes About How It Takes Courage To Find Yourself
It takes courage….to endure the sharp pains of self-discovery rather than choose to take the dull pain of unconsciousness that would last the rest of our lives.
It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.
Quotes About Finding Yourself Even If Others Disapprove
Whatever it takes to find the real you, don’t be daunted if the rest of the world looks on in shock.
I was once afraid of people saying “Who does she think she is?” Now I have the courage to stand and say, “This is who I am.”

The Element is about discovering your self, and you can’t do this if you’re trapped in a compulsion to conform. You can’t be yourself in a swarm.
If you lose someone, but find yourself, you won.
Quotes About How It’s Not Enough To Find Yourself – You Also Need To Accept Yourself
The best-adjusted people are the ‘psychologically patriotic,’ who are glad to be what they are.
Isabel Briggs Myers
When you know yourself you are empowered. When you accept yourself you are invincible.
